Positive and negative effects of mobile phones on kids

Wordsworth had once remarked, “Child is the father of the man”. This saying seems absolutely correct when it comes to mobile phones. The tech savvy generation depends on smart phones to stay connected and kids seem to know much more about these smart gadgets as compared to their parents. There is no doubt that the new age devices come with the upgraded features of calling, messaging, imaging, Internet browsing and gaming. All these advanced features attract the kids instantly and they go on exploring more and more out of their handsets. So, the effect of the mobile phones on kids can be estimated in both ways. On one hand, kids become more updated and can easily keep in touch with the latest and upgraded technology whereas, on the other hand, at times, children misuse some of the features. For instance, the smart phones come with built-in web browser to facilitate hassle free Internet access. Though, the technology ensures up-to-date knowledge on any topic but, at deeper level limits the usage of books. Tell me, who wants to read thick books when everything gets displayed in front of you by pressing a single key. Similarly, built-in high-resolution cameras allow easy photography and enable the kids to capture whatever they want with much ease. Moreover, with the increasing usage of the MMS and Emails, children share many things with each other which are not meant for them. In addition to this, most of the new age mobile phones are provided with interesting embedded games, music player and FM radio which keep the children busy all the time. Apart from this, parents don’t mind gifting their kids’ smart phones, thanks to affordable prices.

So, as everything has pros and cons, same is the case with the handsets which cast positive as well as negative impact on the children. The effect of mobile phones on kids can be checked if parents pay a little more attention. This not only allows the child to stay connected with advanced technology but also makes him/ her aware of the proper usage of the smart phones.
