Wi-Fi Mobile Phones

Wi-Fi mobile phones works on a networking technology that uses radio waves to provide wireless high-speed Internet and network connections. In simpler words, it is a local area network (LAN) that communicates via radio waves on the 802.11 standard instead of wires or Wi-Fi is a wireless technology brand owned by the Wi-Fi Alliance intended to improve the interoperability of wireless local area network products based on the IEEE 802.11 standards. Not only this, it is a technology imbibed in the mobile phone that can automatically switch between conventional cellular and Wi-Fi VoIP modes, even during the course of a conversation. Moreover, A Wi-Fi LAN acts, in effect, as a cellular repeater for such a phone. Interestingly, these are especially designed to prevent a phenomenon called drop-out that occurs when a cell phone set cannot maintain reliable contact with a repeater. The WiFi technology enables devices to connect directly with each other. This connectivity mode can prove useful in consumer electronics and gaming applications. Wi-Fi mobile phones also helps in the coverage of one or more interconnected access points — called a hotspot — can comprise an area as small as a single room with wireless-opaque walls or as large as many square miles covered by overlapping access points. Interestingly, it entices LAN to be deployed without wires for client devices, typically reducing the costs of network deployment and expansion . It is available in more than 220,000 public hotspots and tens of millions of homes and corporate and university campuses worldwide.

These days almost all the high end mobile phones come with Wi Fi making them WiFi mobile phones. Example N97 mini, 5800 Xpressmusic, E71, N85, Samsung i7500, Samsung Omnia 16GB, Sony Ericsson W995, Sony Ericsson W905, LG KM900 Arena, LG KC910, HTC Hero, HTC G1etc., which are creating entertainment in the life of millions.
