Wi-Fi Mobile Phones – Connectivity without wires

Wi-Fi is a trademark networking technology by the Wi-Fi Alliance which is used with certified products that belong to a class of wireless local area network based on the IEEE 802.11 standards. Wi-Fi is now enabled in many electronic gadgets such as personal computers, video game consoles, smartphones, printers and other type of electronic gadgets. It is also present in practically all laptops and palm sized computers.

Basically, a Wi-Fi enabled device such as PC, video game console, mobile phone, MP3 player or a PDA can connect to the Internet when within a range of wireless network to connect to the Internet. Hotspots or a connection of various access points – can compromise an area as small as few rooms or as large as many square kilometers covered by a group of access points with overlapping coverage. These hotspots have become a common place these days in coffee places, universities/colleges, malls and shopping complexes. These hotspots can be either free of charge or come at a cost based upon the usage. Other places where these hotspots and Wi-Fi friendly locations exist are airports, hotels and restaurants which acts as a big lure for many people. Routers play as a catalyst in providing Internet access by combining a digital subscriber line, a modem/cable modem and a Wi-Fi access point. It is extensively used in homes and offices by interlinking these devices through a cable or wirelessly. Routers can be ignored by using an ad-hoc mode for client to client connection. The extensive network of Wi-Fi allows Internet access even in remote locations of home and offices such as bathrooms, back yard, kitchen etc.

Wi-Fi allows local area network to be deployed without wires for client devices, thereby reducing the costs of network deployment and expansion. This method is a boon for such locations where cables cannot be used such as outdoor areas and historical buildings. Earlier the costs of building a Wi-Fi network and its usability was expensive but now with reduce chipset costs and wireless network adapters being inbuilt into laptops their usage level has increased and the prices have dipped. It therefore has become an economic option for Internet connectivity from practically any location across the world.

There are various Wi-Fi mobile phones as Nokia N900, Nokia X6, Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, Sony Ericsson Satio, Samsung B5310 Corby Pro, Samsung B7610 Omnia Pro to name a few. All of these sensational handsets ensure you have blistering speeds while you surf the Internet without plugging in any wires and worrying about losing connections.
